Skaftafells glacier, Iceland where Batman Begins.

Not the pristine blue ice of many glaciers, Skaftafells glacier grinds through volcanic rock and has accumulated the lava sands of past eruptions. Terminating close to a main road, this is a location that has attracted several big name films. Skaftafells is one of the glacial tongues of the second largest ice cap, Vatnajokull, in Europe. The glacier has retreated or receeded some way since this photograph in 1979.
