The colourful fishermen's cottages by the river Lauch in Colmar, Alsace

They are a popular sight in the Petite Venise area of the old town.

From the riverside here fishermen once operated, catching river fish which were stored in ponds to be sold in the district. The town, on the wine route, receives thousands of tourists every year.
