Description

A post glacial river cut through the southern Mendip Hills. Caves that were formed in the porous rock below the gorge allowed the river to run underground as the flood water flow reduced. The river, Cheddar Yeo, emerges in Gough Cave, a tourist attraction. The gorge still sometimes floods. The gorge walls rise up to 137 meters. The view is to the south.
