Invasive species are often very attractive. The Hottentot fig - Carpobrotus edulis - in Cornwall has gone feral and is now considered an invasive species like rhododendron, Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam all invasive species that were popular garden plants in the past. They are now threatening the ecology and survival of native species. Some invasive species are by natural processes but most are introductions by man that have gone feral. The Hottentot Fig, which may also be pale yellow, has colonized Devon and Cornwall and can be found in other frost free coastal areas in southern England.
